The Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, Davit Narmania, took part in the International Water Futures Forum, held in Tbilisi on 10–11 February. The high-level forum brought together stakeholders to discuss sustainable water resource management and strategic directions for the future of the water sector.
During the panel discussions, the GNERC Chairman spoke on the principles of water supply sector regulation, the necessity and importance of an effective investment environment for the development of the sector, and focused on aspects of setting fair tariffs, improving service quality and protecting consumer rights.
“The development of the water supply sector represents a key national priority. Georgia is among the countries globally endowed with abundant water resources. However, ensuring the delivery of safe and high-quality drinking water requires proper treatment, modern infrastructure, and substantial, long-term investment. The Regulatory Commission is actively working to foster a stable and attractive investment environment, enhance service quality, and ensure the sustainability and fairness of tariff policy. In close cooperation with the Government of Georgia, the effective and sustainable management of water resources remains a strategic objective of GNERC. The interest demonstrated by Aqualia, a major international investor with extensive experience, reflects the transparency of the regulatory framework and the effectiveness of regulatory practices in Georgia, further strengthening positive long-term expectations for the country’s international development and success,” noted Davit Narmania in his address.
The panel discussions brought together senior representatives of government and parliamentary institutions, as well as leaders of international water organizations. The opening session of the forum featured keynote addresses by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze; the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze; and the Chief Executive Officer of Aqualia, Santiago Lafuente.
