Davit Narmania, the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), made a speech at the closing ceremony of Twinning Light project, implemented in GNERC, sponsored by the European Union. According to the Chairman of GNERC, the process of harmonizing the energy market with the requirements of the European Union, as well as the rapid increase in the role of technology in the world, made digitalization as one of the most important challenges.

"I believe that with the close cooperation of GNERC with other relevant institutions and international organizations, Georgia will be soon able to create and develop a competitive and transparent energy market, ensure energy security and independence. Implementing international projects and applying gained experience, we will be able to enhance GNERC’s capabilities to improve regulatory standards and promote a sustainable and attractive investment environment in the country, establish healthy competition and, at the same time, protect the interests of consumers.

In the energy sector of Georgia, historical events are currently taking place. Important reforms have been carried out to harmonize Georgian legislation with that of the European Union and to establish an appropriate regulatory framework. A number of normative acts have been developed, which ensure the creation of an appropriate legal framework for the functioning of the competitive market and effective monitoring, as well as the existence of higher level consumer protection mechanisms. The development of digital technologies is very important in this process." said Chairman Davit Narmania.

The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze, the Ambassador of Italy to Georgia H.E. Enrico Valvo, a member of GNERC and leader of the project Mr. Giorgi Pangani, Catalin Gherman, acting head of cooperation of the delegation of the European Union to Georgia, Alberto Biancardi and Petro Falconi, representatives of Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE Italy) made speeches at the event of the Twinning Light project "Assisting Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) in Creating Enabling Environment for Digitalization and Developing Digitalization Strategy".
