The results of voting for the position of the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) have been approved at the Public Hearing of October 22 based on which Mr. Davit Narmania has been appointed as the Chairman of GNERC. He will be holding the position for 3 year period.
Based on the amendments made to the Law of Georgia on Electricity and Natural Gas the elections were held on October 21 where the Commissioners have voted for the candidate of the Chairman through a secret ballot. According to the Protocol of Voting prepared by the Vote Counting Commission Mr. Davit Narmania has been elected by majority votes (4 votes) of the Commissioners.
Mr. Davit Narmania is an economist and has PhD in Economics. Mr. Narmania has been managing various international and local projects related to the energy sector development. He is an author of 42 scientific research publications and a co-author of 48 publications. He still continues his scientific work. Since 2012 Mr. Narmania is a professor at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and at the same time, the Head of the Management and Administration Cathedra. He delivers lectures concerning issues of business risk management and regulation of business environment.
Mr. Davit Narmania was a Mayor of Tbilisi in the period of 2014-2017, whereas in 2012-2014 he was a Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. He speaks English, German and Russian languages. He is married and has 3 children.
